Chronic Fatigue Cause

Unfortunately, no one really knows for sure what causes chronic fatigue syndrome.

Some experts believe that it is linked to infection of one or both viruses that are members of the herpes virus family called the Epstein-Barr (EPV) virus and/or the cytomegalovirus (CMV).

This speculation or belief is based largely on the fact that many chronic fatigue sufferers were found to exhibit high levels of EBV antibodies in their blood. In addition, many dated their onset of chronic fatigue symptoms to a prolonged period of time with a viral infection.

However, this chronic fatigue cause was never conclusively proved. In fact, it has now been discovered that many people show high antibody EBV levels without any apparent ill effects on their health, and that many cases of this disorder transpire without any known preceding infection. As such, researchers were led to search for other possible chronic fatigue cause and/or causes.

Since then, researchers have suggested other explanations for this mysterious illness.

Possible Chronic Fatigue Cause or Causes

*Anemia *Hypoglycemia *Hypothyroidism *Environmental Allergy *Candida Albicans Infection *Inadequate Sleep *Arthritis *Chronic Mercury Poisoning from Amalgam Dental Fillings *An As-yet-Unidentified Immune System Problem *Defect in the Mechanisms that Regulate Blood Pressure

It has been found that many CFS sufferers also suffer from a muscle disorder that causes weakness and fatigue known as Fibromyalgia.

In addition, intestinal parasites are also comparatively common in people that have been plagued with this health condition.

Perhaps, there isn't one single chronic fatigue cause, but different combination of factors that can result to CFS in people whom are susceptible.

Contributing factors of CFS may include a poor diet, allergies, thyroid dysfunction, candida, anemia, stress, and nutritional deficiencies as all these factors do indeed compromise the immune system.

CFS is not considered a life-threatening condition, but it also cannot be cured, and it can result in serious damage to the immune system.

In addition, chronic fatigue syndrome consists of a complex array of symptoms that may mimic other illnesses. As such, this condition is often difficult to diagnose as its symptoms often resemble those of flu as well as other viral infections. Therefore, it is often mistaken for other conditions. To complicate matters, because routine medical tests do not detect any problems, this condition is often misdiagnosed as depression, hypochondria, or psychosomatic illness.

In fact, in the mid-1980s this condition made the headlines being nick-named the "yuppie flu" and it was looked upon as either depression or burnout. Moreover, because many chronic fatigue sufferers looked - so to speak healthy - they were told that their symptoms were "all in their heads." Of course, this has changed since then as time has shown that this condition is real.

Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

There is currently no prescription drugs specifically designed for CFS. In addition, CFS symptoms vary considerably over time.

Therefore, because there is no known chronic fatigue cause, drugs, or cure, treatments are focused on symptom relief and improved function. This would include a combination of drug and non-drug therapies which are as follows:

  • Lifestyle changes, including prevention of overexertion
  • Stress Reduction
  • Dietary recommendations and restrictions
  • Gentle stretching
  • Nutritional supplementation
  • Drug therapies used to treat sleep, pain, and other specific symptoms.

In addition, there are no known chronic fatigue natural treatments per se, but many alternative professionals do use nutritional supplements, herbs, and dietary and lifestyle recommendations in order to help a person who suffers from CFS.

Natural Nutrients that May Help Chronic Fatigue

Since the theme of our site is on nutritional supplements, including herbs, let's take a look on how some of these vitamins, minerals, herbs, and nutrients might help specifically with chronic fatigue symptoms.

Natural Energy Boosting Chronic Fatigue Vitamins: *The B-Complex family is well known as the vitamins that combats stress and improve energy levels

Natural Energy Boosting Minerals and Nutrients: *Magnesium *Coenzyme Q10 *Lecithin *NADH *Malic Acid

Side Note: Often CFS people are deficient in magnesium. A deficiency in malic acid has also been linked to CFS.

Natural Immune System Boosters:*Beta-Carotene *Vitamin C *Vitamin E *Selenium *Zinc *Astragalus *Echinacea *Olive Leaf Extract

Actually, there is no "silver bullet" in managing chronic fatigue. However, in our opinion, the body's immune system can use all the nutritional help it can get regardless that there are no known chronic fatigue cause or causes.

We believe that if you have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, your best bet is to consult with a health care provider who has specific experience in the management and treatment of this complex syndrome.

Lastly, always remember to speak to a physician before taking any dietary supplements.
