What's the connection between CoQ10 and the heart?

CoQ10 research is also studying its effects on periodontal disease. Several preliminary studies have shown CoQ10 improves the health of gums and, as such,

CoQ10 research in regards to migraine headaches looks promising. According to PubMed:
"Thirty-two patients (26 women, 6 men) with a history of episodic migraine with or without aura were treated with coenzyme Q10 at a dose of 150 mg per day. Thirty-one of 32 patients completed the study; 61.3% of patients had a greater than 50% reduction in number of days with migraine headache. There were no side-effects noted with coenzyme Q10. From this open label investigation coenzyme Q10 appears to be a good migraine preventive. Placebo-controlled trials are now necessary to determine the true efficacy of coenzyme Q10 in migraine prevention."
CoQ10 information was released on concerns about COQ10 and statins. If you're on any cholesterol-lowering statin medications such as atorvastatin (Lipitor), fluvastatin (Lescol), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) we urge you to speak with you're physician immediately to see if supplementation of COQ10 is advisable. These drugs have demonstrated that they can deplete and/or lower the levels of CoQ10. Beta blockers and some antidepressants may also deplete levels of CoQ10 as well.
CoQ10 research has investigated the possibility if this nutrient would be beneficial in the treatment of cancer. One study found that coenzyme Q10 had a protective effect on children with cancer being treated with Adriamycin, a chemotherapy drug that can cause irreversible heart damage and possible heart failure. As such, it is believed that Coenzyme Q10 works as an antioxidant to protect the heart from the damaging effects of this drug agent. In addition, early CoQ10 research shows that high doses of this nutrient had favorable affects on metastatic breast cancer. More research is needed on CoQ10 and its effects on cancer.
CoQ10 was found to be helpful in preliminary studies for people who suffer from muscular dystrophy. It was found to improve physical performance, heart function, and overall quality of life.
But wait….there's more CoQ10 information.
CoQ10 research has also studied its effects with weight loss.
In a study, subjects in group (1) had low levels of CoQ10 while subjects in group (2) had normal levels of CoQ10.
Both groups were given 100 mg per day of CoQ10 along with a 650-calorie diet. After nine weeks, Group 1 (low levels of CoQ10) lost an average of about 30 pounds compared to an average of 13 pounds for Group 2.
Bottom line…there needs to much more CoQ10 research, especially in long-term trials to better determine its true effectiveness and safety.
