Mosquito Bites: West Nile Virus

It's important to note that while a home remedy for mosquito bites may be helpful, mosquitoes can carry the West Nile virus.

The West Nile virus is a mosquito-borne disease that can cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) or meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord).

Symptoms include rapid onset of severe headache, high fever, stiff neck, confusion, loss of consciousness, and muscle weakness.

If you experience any of these symptoms or any other symptoms that are not normal, contact your physician immediately.

For more information on the West Nile virus, please go to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
